New 183 electric buses begin operation and Latin America’s first electroterminal opens

The new buses will benefit 660 thousand people from Maipú, Central Station, Santiago, Auñoa, Peñalolén, Pudahuel, Cerro Navia, Quinta Normal and Lo Prado. With the debut of the new units, the electric fleet almost doubled. Thus the Red buses already account for 15% of all public transport in the capital.

The fleet of electric buses with Red standard almost doubled in the capital, after today began the operation of 183 new units that will circulate on Avenida Grecia, benefiting 660 thousand people from Maipú, Central Station, Santiago, Auñoa, Peñalolén, Pudahuel, Cerro Navia, Quinta Normal and Lo Prado.

With its incorporation, a total of 386 electric buses are already in circulation, which, together with the 610 ecological buses that have been integrated since last March to capital public transport, elevate the fleet with standard Red to 996 buses, equivalent to 15% of the current park.

The growth of the electric bus fleet positions Chile as a global benchmark in electromobility and consolidates Santiago as the second largest city in the world, after the Chinese, with more electric buses in the world

Today also opened the first electroterminal in Latin America, located in the commune of Peñalolén, which has 65 chargers and 11 solar parking lots with photovoltaic panels that allow to contribute to the consumption of the operation of buses and electroterminal.

The 183 electric buses belong to routes 506-506e-510-516-519-507c and 507-506v and feature universal accessibility, more comfortable and wide seats, low floor, wifi, air conditioning and USB chargers.

Also highlighted was the enablement of 34 digital bus stops in the Greece corridor, which will have information screens, LED lighting and USB chargers, as well as 54 high standard shelters.
