MTT announces 127 new green buses with Red standard for 20 communes in greater Santiago
As of Sunday, September 6, 11 services with Red standard were incorporated into operation with coverage in 20 areas of Santiago benefiting more than 515 thousand people per week.
Since this Sunday 6 September, the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications integrated into the system 127 new red buses Network with Euro VI technology, to serve the routes traveled 405c – 409 – 411 – 430 – 103 – 107 – 107c – 107y- 117 – 117c, improving the travel experience of its users.
The incorporation of the new fleet is part of the gradual renovation of 1,160 buses that began on June 27 and will run until September. These buses will be added to the 1,069 that came into operation in 2019, totaling a fleet of 2,220 buses with Red standard and that will benefit 4 million users per week. Currently 561 electric buses and 880 electric buses (Euro VI) operate.

“These services that are joining will benefit live 515 thousand people who use these services a week in 20 communes of Santiago connecting more distant points of the city as Business City with Providence, or Plaza Italia with Vitacura. This renewal will mean a major improvement as these services were being operated by fleet that has already fulfilled its lifespan with evident lack of safety and comfort in travel”Minister of Transport and Telecommunications Gloria Hutt explained.
The Secretary of State added that “These new Red buses with Euro VI technology, in addition to having very low emission levels of polluting gases, deliver better performance for their users, such as air conditioning, USB ports, universal accessibility and more comfortable seats, among other attributes that we know are valued by people, because they greatly improve the quality of their trip.”
Meanwhile, the Director of Metropolitan Public Transport, Fernando Saka, recalled that express services that will move on with the new fleet will maintain their paths and stops, changing only the standard and color of the bus. Therefore, it reminded users that before addressing they should look at the route number.
