President Piñera presented “Red” the identity that will define the new public transport of the main cities of the country
The new name relates to the new standard that users have already appreciated with electric and ecological buses, and the new Metro Line 3.
The President of the Republic, Sebastián Piñera and the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Gloria Hutt, today presented “RED”, the new identity that he will have of metropolitan public transport and which will gradually designate the systems of the main cities of the country.
The modification promoted by the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications (MTT) is part of the incorporation of 200 new electric and 490 ecological buses in Santiago, in addition to the inauguration of subway Line 3. It also relates to the purchase of new trains in the Biotren de Concepción and the renovation of buses – many of them electric – that will occur in the main cities of the country.
The new name will gradually leave behind the Transantiago brand, to the extent that new buses are incorporated, together with the forthcoming tenders of the public transport system. Also part of this modification is the construction of the future lines 7.8 and 9 of the subway, together with the extensions of lines 2,3, 4 and 6, in addition to the projects of commuter trains such as Melipilla, Batuco and the reinforcement of systems such as the Biotren de Concepción.
“Red Metropolitana de Movilidad or RED is the new name for the integrated system”
Red Metropolitana de Movilidad or RED is the new name for the integrated system. It refers to the need to connect not only with the places where we travel, within the city, but with other people and to our connection with public space”Minister Gloria Hutt stressed.
The RED brand was created by Future Brand, through a framework agreement, which included focus group, in which, unanimously, people chose the RED concept. The purpose of the company was to achieve a simple name that clearly appealed to the sense of intermodality of the transport system and the emphasis it will have on the quality of service that people expect.
The aim of the new identity is to reflect the change in the standard of public transport that the Government is implementing in both the metropolitan system and the regions. In addition to a new fleet, the change includes features that aim to generate a more comfortable journey, such as air conditioning, chargers with USB ports, padded seats, universal accessibility, driver-safe cabs and a more harmonious design of the internal spaces.
“This standard, offered in Santiago by electric buses, already obtained a note 6.3, according to a study carried out during this summer”
“Throughout this year the metropolitan public transport system will see a consolidation of the improvements that seek to establish a new relationship of the system with the user thanks to a new standard of service, away from the questioned Transantiago that will gradually remain in the past”Director of metropolitan public transport, Fernando Saka, said.
The brand, accompanied by the new image of public transport will be gradually incorporated into the system buses. The aim of the TTT is that by 2020 50% of the tendered system will incorporate the red and white colours, symbols of this new stage, a process that should be completed by 2021 when the last tender is made.
