Within the framework of the National Mobility Plan, the Minister of Transport and Telecommunications, Gloria Hutt, together with the mayor of Peñalolén, Carolina Leitao, today presented the state of progress of the tactical urban planning interventions that are being implemented in bus stops of the Red system in the Metropolitan Region.
“This measure provides for the installation of demarcations and signals intended for persons to have physical estating”
This measure, which will be applied in a total of 1,000 stopping points in 33 communes of the MRI, provides for the installation of demarcations and signals intended for persons to have physical estating. To date, 509 bus stops in 18 areas already have such designs.
The purpose of such measures is to promote the safe movement of persons in public spaces, including transport. In this case, it is sought to order the up and down flows in the bus stops that record high influx of passengers, so that users maintain physical estating.”
Minister Hutt, together with Mayor Leitao, presented the intervention in one of the bus stops of Avenida Grecia, in which high-traffic stickers were installed, located in the form of a zigzag on the platform to distribute the location of the people, maintaining the distance of 1 meter recommended by the health authority. It was also installed with the recommendation of “non-use of seats” and a special area was established for pregnant women, older adults and people with reduced mobility.
New Standard Network on Tour 216
In addition, in the instance, the authorities announced the incorporation of buses with Red standard in route 216, a service that runs through 8 communes, including Peñalolén.
“This service began this week its transition to standard Network offering a better travel experience to the 140 thousand users it transports per week. In total, there are 26 ecological buses Euro VI that are operating on this route, which also added to the area of La Pintana as a beneficiary of the Red standard, as it was one of the areas of the Metropolitan Region that did not yet have this type of fleet”Minister Hutt reported.
This service is in high demand for the level of connection it delivers to the East. Currently 73% of the fleet of route 216 operates with Red buses and it is expected that during September and October the renovation of this tour will be completed.
